Volunteer Programme

Introduction

Our mission is to provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience Nepali family life and culture and share in contributing to the English language and life skills of the children at the Disabled Rehabilitation Center.

The friendships and memories of your volunteer service in Nepal, will last for a lifetime. DRC – A garden where discarded buds blossom, is the first established Care House in Nepal for disabled and disadvantaged children, established and staffed by a majority of disabled adults, with the support of the local community.

DRC warmly welcomes volunteers from around the world no formal educational qualifications are required, however a fluency in the English language is essential

Duration:

The volunteer term is from one month to three months with a minimum age requirement of 18 years.

Fees:

The Volunteer Programme Fees are very reasonable and will appeal to all travellers, especially those with a limited budget. The fees cover the cost of your accommodation, two meals a day, and transportation to and from the airport.

The Fees are:

 

First Month: 200 US Dollars – this also includes:
* basic Nepali language training
* cultural sightseeing
* cultural awareness tuition in the first week

Each following month: 165 US Dollars
The Programme Fees are to be paid in full on arrival at the DRC Care House. We do not accept credit cards or cheques. Payment can be made in US Dollars or Nepalese Rupees. There are several international ATM machines in the Thamel area of Kathmandu.

Programme:

The Programme Includes:
* Joining in the day to day Care House activities as one of the family
* Conversational English with the children
* Helping the children with their homework assignments
* Assisting Office Staff with English Language projects
* Sharing general housework e.g. hand washing clothes etc
* Helping with the daytime care of the children who do not attend school
* Conducting Conversational English groups at one of the local schools

* You may also wish to spend one week of your placement time staying with a local family and sharing their lifestyle. The DRC Care House is   home to 55 children from many regions of Nepal, and 9 staffs, with an upstairs room for volunteers. Although the living conditions are   cramped, love and enthusiasm abound and there is a family atmosphere based on respect, cooperation and mutual support, focused on    ability, not disability.
